Professional Experience
The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX
Postdoctoral Research Associate, Dec. 2017 – current

  • Building a new opensource parallel time-marching solver for unsteady flow solutions in the U.S. EPA Stormwater Management Model (SWMM).
  • Use of artificial compressibility for surcharged pipe flow.
  • Parallelization through coarray Fortran (i.e., Fortran 2008 or later) that provides run-time parallelization on any number of processors.
  • Extending the capabilities of the new EPA Water Distribution Piping Model (EPANET) user interface by creating an optimal design plugin using Qt.
  • Adopt and cascade an existing WNTR plugin environment for modeling of water distribution networks into the new EPANET user interface.
  • Performed code development (Python and Fortran), data analysis and visualization on large data sets.
  • Authored 3 software packages and presented 8 different talks at professional conferences in the areas of water and environmental modeling.

Iowa State University, Ames, IA
Graduate Research Assistant, Jan. 2013 – Nov. 2017

  • Performed code development (C++), data analysis and visualization on large data sets.
  • Authored 7 Peer-reviewed journal articles, 2 software packages, and presented 5 different talks at professional conferences in the areas of multiphase flows in mechanical/chemical engineering.
  • Implemented a log-normal kernel density function into the quadrature-based moment method. It is being used in problems related to particle size distribution, mainly in pharmaceutical applications, where the aggregation and breakage and particle size change may occur during the process.
  • Developed a new computation fluid dynamic model based on conditional quadrature method of moments for turbulent mixing and reacting flows. It is a model to describe the behavior of the system under different reaction types.
  • Developed a new computation fluid dynamic model based on conditional quadrature method of moments for flash nanoprecipitation to produce active nano-particles. It was applied to problems where the mixing and aggregation of polymers and organics happen simultaneously.
  • Applied the moment method to Fokker-Planck mixing model to study turbulent scalar mixing and mixing in premixed flames.

Iowa State University, Ames, IA

Center for CFD and Cavitational Flows Studies, Tabriz
Graduate Research Assistant, Aug. 2008 – Aug. 2011

  • My research consisted in numerical studies on the hydrodynamics of a bubble-Based micro injector, and dynamics of a vapour bubble generated due to a local energy input inside water near a rigid, thin metal plate, compliant and free surfaces and its control. I have also performed data analysis and visualization on large data sets and have published multiple peer reviewed journal articles and conference papers.
